My Three Day Egg Fast

Last week I decided to do a three day egg fast from the 17th to the 19th of March. I had known about it for some time but it was only recently while chatting to a weight loss buddy on FatSecret that we decided to do it together.

The egg fast consists of eggs, butter and cheese. You have to eat a minimum of 6 eggs per day, just about any way you like, i.e. poached, boiled, fried its all good, including pancakes and omelet’s. The egg to fat ratio is that you have to eat 1tbs of butter or other pure and healthy fat like olive oil or coconut oil for each egg. Additionally for each egg consumed and up to 1 oz cheese (30gm) for each egg consumed is allowed. This is entirely up to you. I tried to minimize the cheese as dairy could stall you and sabotage all your good efforts. For more information, ideas and guidelines see Melissa’s Egg Fast Diet Menu Plan page at I breathe, I’m hungry.

My results:

I did not stick to the plan as prescribed as I had 2 cups of Ceylon tea a day with little milk, one in the morning and one at night. I enjoy my tea and I would not have survived the 3 days going cold turkey in addition to eating a limited diet. I might have broken one or two other rules but I was happy with my results. After the 3 days I weighed in and was delighted! I had lost 900grams (1.9lbs) and 5 centimeters (1.9 inches) off my belly. I did have reason for concern on day 2 as I was called to the clinic to donate blood but unfortunately my blood pressure was very low. At 90 over 60 it was the lowest it had ever been. For the last couple of years I alternated between a healthy, 120 over 80 or 70. It was a disappointment not being able to donate but it was good to know that I was clearly lacking in essential salts. Would I do the egg fast again? It’s hard to say at this stage. I would certainly include some chicken or bone broth due to my blood pressure dropping the way it did;  and also psyllium husk or a fiber supplement as my macro’s will show you my fiber intake was so low it was basically non existent. I would not suggest the egg fast to somebody who is not fat adapted; andthe egg fast is also geared for somebody who has experienced slow weight loss or a stall. If in any doubt always consult your medical practitioner.
